 St Chad’s Church : Lichfield

St Chad’s is an historic church, which remains very active in the twenty-first century. It aims to reach out and shows God’s love to people in the local community, as well as to help those further afield.

about

St Chad's is located in the north of Lichfield, at the opposite end of Stowe Pool from the Cathedral. Our church has direct links with St Chad who, as bishop of the Saxon kingdom of Mercia in the seventh century, built his oratory where St Chad's Church now stands.

In our church grounds is St Chad's Well, where, according to tradition, Chad baptised his converts to the Christian faith in a land which was still largely pagan. The Well has always been a focus of pilgrimage and there has been a particular revival in recent years.

As well as our regular services on Sundays and during the week (see below), there are opportunities for prayer, study and fellowship in other contexts and for all ages. There is a Sunday School, a choir, and a recently launched youth group, as well as various prayer, discussion and study groups and many more socially orientated groups and activities.

God's love is for all his people and at St Chad's we are constantly seeking to reach out beyond those who are regular church-goers.

Within Lichfield, the Chadlinks project works in the large housing-association area which forms the northern part of our parish, and is part of the North Lichfield Initiative. Several members of St Chad's play a part in the work of the chaplaincy at Swinfen Hall Young Offenders Institute.

Looking further afield, we also actively work for social justice for those in need elsewhere in the world through our support of organisations such as Christian Aid, the Jubilee+ campaign and Traidcraft.

St Chad's is normally open throughout daylight hours and visitors are welcome: whether simply to look round or for a period of quiet time with God or to leave a prayer on our prayer table.

Of course, we would love to give you a personal welcome at one of our services or other events or, if you just want someone to come and talk to you, don't hesitate to get in touch.
